ECA has partnered with an exciting new program called "Young Voices on Climate Change".
Program Description:
Young Voices on Climate Change presents the compelling and inspiring stories of young people from the United States and around the world who are taking action and finding solutions to the global warming crisis facing our planet. Young people in the U.S., Europe, Brazil, India, Kenya, Indonesia and Siberia are creating and implementing their own projects, taking the lead and garnering support from climate scientists, teachers, parents, peers, and conservation organizations to turn knowledge into action, by reducing the carbon footprint of their homes, schools, communities, states and countries.
The Young Voices on Climate Change project has the potential to galvanize the public- adults and kids alike- and create a paradigm shift in the way that society views, and acts to abate global warming as with the successful campaigns for wearing seat belts, recycling, and stopping littering which created change from the roots up through youth education.
Young Voices on Climate Change is a multimedia environmental education initiative to be produced and directed by Lynne Cherry and Raymond Chavez. This project is being produced in association with non-profit Alliance for Climate Education (ACE). Earth Council Alliance will be the project's non-profit fiscal agent. The project's multimedia programs will be distributed through print, television, internet, radio, and emerging new media platforms including YouTube and social networks such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, and selected members of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), and the Association of Science and Technology Centers (ASTC).
The poignancy of these young voices reaches our hearts. When Severn Suzuki addressed the 1992 Rio Earth Summit as a 13 year old, she said "I'm here to speak for the world's children," and asked, "Are we even on your list of priorities?" The young people featured in this project are following in her footsteps.
