Harmony Foundation Publishes Green Cities:
Earth Council Alliance is a proud sponsor of the "Kids of Scampia" Environmental Concert Series, produced by Earth Council Italia. The first concert took place May 20 in Naples, Italy at the RAI (Italian National Television) Auditorium and featured performances by Italian youth participants of the "Kids of Scampia" project.
“The Kids of Scampia"
The Kids of Scampia Project aims at empowering disadvantage youth through a qualified sustainable development project which aims at improving the urban environment, trough music and education, and create a culture of social and environmental sustainability.
The projects the Kids of Scampia proposed by Earth Council Italia main deliverables will be the following:
(i) The creation of a sustainable music education program (the Kids of Scampia Music School).
(ii) The production of a CD (written by the kids and by famous Italian singers) which addresses urban social and environmental degradation (the distribution the CD will raise money and finance the music school sustainability).
(iii) The organization of a series of concerts, the first of which will be showcased in May 2009, with the objective of spreading environmental consciousness, knowledge and hope.
(iv) The organization of community lead coastal clean-up activities aimed at enhancing eco-tourism activities.
The project is supported by The Betsy Gordon Foundation, UNEP, ECA, RAI (Main Italian TV Channel), Office of Prime Minister, Governor of Naples, and the Mayor of Naples. In addition the activity has been endorsed by numerous Italian pop stars and actors (who will be singing with the kids in different Italian cities). The project speaks about the tangible environmental risks that cities are facing, including the waste management emergency, and suggest actions that people can take to address these challenges. The Kids of Scampia project will also link-up with similar projects in the Slums in Rio de Janeiro, as well as one in San Francisco called Music for Change.
